All Stars

The All-Star tournaments are a key component of the Little League season. Each year, GWLL sends teams to compete at the District level and the chance to go on to the State tournaments or beyond. T

his time of the year is exciting and can be a bit confusing with a different set of rules and requirements. Below are several key pieces of information to help you through the All Star season.

Teams

  • Typically GWLL tries to send all-star teams for each division in which players played from Minors division on up. Also, there is the the potential to have a 10-11 year old team if the number of players allow for it. There is no guarantee for any team from any division to be created. It will vary from year to year.
  •

Player Commitment

  • Selection to an all-star team is an honor and privilege. It is also a commitment.
  • Players are expected to be all all practices and games. Typically teams will practice 6-7 times a week prior to the tournament.
  • Tournament games can be held on any day of the week or weekend, including Sundays,
  • It is crucial to the team success that all players attend practice.
  • If the player can not make the commitment, then they should opt out of putting their name on the ballot.
  • At the first team meeting, managers will ask for parents and players to commit to the team.

Team Selection

  • All Star teams for each division are created by a combination of player voting, coaches within the division, and the All Star Manager.
  • Players have the option not to be included on the ballot. Notification must be sent to the player agent or president prior to the player voting day.
  • The overview process includes:
    • Players voting for the top 5 players)
    • Managers and coaches picking an additional 15 players
    • From the pool of 20, the managers and coaches in the division pick the first 10 players for the team
    • The elected All Star Manager can then select the remaining 2 - 4 players depending on how many players they wish to have on the team.
  • The All-Star teams will be announced (via website and Facebook) after closing ceremonies.
  • The full set of rules can be found here
  • The cost for each player is $100 which provides for the uniform shirt and hat/visor, along a small portion of the registration fees. There are district level and national level fees to pay for each all-star team that participates in the tournaments. The GWLL general fund covers the majority of these fees with our all-star fee paying primarily for the jersey, hat/visor.
  • Most teams will practice most days between closing ceremonies and the start of the tournament.

Manager Selection

  • The All Star Manager is elected by voting from the managers and rostered coaches within the division.
  • All managers and coaches must be in good standing and approved by the GWLL Board of Directors.
